Does My Business Need an App?
Start with the problem, not the app
Before budgeting for an app, describe the problem without mentioning technology. Are customers struggling to book appointments? Does staff copy the same information between spreadsheets? Do field employees need a faster way to record work? Do repeat customers need convenient access to an account or service?
Once the problem is specific, the solution becomes easier to judge. Sometimes that solution is an app. Sometimes it is a better website, a web app, an improved form, an automated workflow, or a small internal tool.
Good reasons to consider an app
An app becomes more compelling when people use the service frequently, log in repeatedly, need personalized information, rely on notifications, or benefit from device features. Recurring customer interactions can justify the convenience of an installed experience more easily than a service a customer may use once every few years.
Internal apps can also make sense when employees perform the same process every day and the tool can save meaningful time or reduce mistakes.
When a website may be enough
If most visitors need to learn about the company, view services, see examples, and make contact, a strong mobile website may serve them better. There is no installation barrier, links are easy to share, and search engines can discover public pages.
Adding an app that duplicates a website without giving users a reason to return can create extra cost and maintenance without adding much value.
Consider the ongoing responsibility
Software is not finished simply because version one launches. Operating-system changes, dependencies, security updates, third-party services, app-store requirements, user support, and new device sizes can all create future work. The business should understand who will maintain the product and what recurring services it depends on.
A practical decision
ForgeGrown can build across websites, web apps, PWAs, mobile apps, and focused digital tools as those needs call for them. Our preference is to match the solution to the workflow instead of selling the largest possible build. A clear use case is a much better starting point than an app for the sake of having an app.
