Mobile App Planning
A business asking for an “app” may actually need a mobile-friendly website, a web app or a progressive web app—and choosing the lighter option can sometimes deliver the needed experience without app-store distribution. ForgeGrown can currently help evaluate that decision and build app-like web experiences while dedicated native mobile development remains on our roadmap.
What this service can include
- Website vs. web app vs. PWA evaluation
- Mobile-first product and workflow planning
- App-like browser experiences available now
- Native mobile development remains in development
- Scope decisions based on actual requirements
First decide what the app needs to accomplish
The important questions are who will use it, how often, whether it needs accounts or stored data, whether it must work offline, what device capabilities it needs and whether app-store distribution is important. Those answers help separate a website problem from a web-app, PWA or native-app problem.
When a web app or PWA may be enough
Browser-based applications can work across devices without asking every user to install a store app. PWAs can add capabilities such as installability and selected offline behavior when the project supports them. For internal tools, customer portals, schedulers and many business workflows, those approaches can be worth evaluating before committing to native development.
When native mobile deserves consideration
A native app can make more sense when the product depends heavily on device-specific capabilities, deeper offline behavior, app-store presence or a mobile experience that cannot be delivered appropriately through the web. The tradeoff is additional development, testing, distribution and ongoing platform requirements.
Current ForgeGrown availability
Dedicated native mobile application development is still being prepared as a standard ForgeGrown service. We will not represent that capability as fully launched before it is ready. In the meantime, we can help scope the idea and determine whether a website, web app or PWA can meet the actual requirement.
